Sri Aandal’s life history is a testimony to the fact that hope and faith victors. Sri Aandal, one of the Azhwars grew up at Srivilliputhur under the care of Periyazhwar. Her birth is celebrated on the day of Thiruvadipporam, even today by devotees all around the world. Her devotion towards the Lord was one of madhura Bhava (considering the Lord as one’s husband). Her Nachiaar Thirumozhi 143 hymns and Thiruppavai 30 hymns in praise of the Lord are full of such intense immaculate love towards the Lord. She followed the Thiruppavai nombu during the month of margazhi so that she may attain the Lord’s feet. The Lord accepted her garland that she wore around her neck. The Lord also appeared in her dreams which she describes in her 10 pasurams-varanam ayiram. Finally Sri Ranganatha arrived at Srivilliputhur on a palanquin, married her and took her to his abode and then to his feet. “Choodi kodutha chuddar kodi –Aandal thus becomes the consort of the Lord.”
