The beauteous Radha resembles a marble-sculpted doll. She is tall and fair and petite, and completely given in to the affections of the cowherd. The avatara of Lord Vishnu bears all the hallmarks of His signature iconography - a dhoti in peet (golden yellow colour), peacock plumage emerging from a bejewelled crown, and a garland of pristine devotional offerings. She is not resisting Him; in fact, She sighs and motions involuntarily as He undresses Her, Her silk skirts rustling and glass bangles tinkling in the quietude.
A bird of pure white plumage is perched upon the inner branches of the slender-stemmed tree. Its pearly form stands out against the charcoal-coloured bark and the dark recesses of the canopy. Amidst the shades of green and brown and charcoal, the red and yellow silks of the lovers make for a sharp, emotive contrast. It is almost as if the colourful flowers in the foreground are shying away from the amorous gestures of the divine couple.
