Gold and scarlet silks clothe the gracious form of the Dhanalakshmi. Her luscious black hair is spread about Her shoulders, veiled by a length of gossamer silk in ice blue colour. Her shining, lifelike face is framed by a richly studded crown, karnakundalas dangling from either earlobe, and layers upon layers of bejewelled necklaces. The most striking aspect of this composition is that these bits have been embossed with pure gold metal.
She is shashabhujadharini, the one possessed of (‘dharini’) six (‘shasha’) arms (‘bhuja’). The conch and the discus in Her posteriormost arms are Vaishnavite implements, while the things She holds in the other hands are symbols of plenitude. An endless stream of precious stones from the pot in Her right hand and of gold coins from the left raised in blessing. This Dhanalakshmi painting would be a valuable addition to the home or office of any devotee.
