Richly attired and bedecked in precious jewelry, Goddess Lakshmi, the granter of prosperities sits majestically poised atop a resplendent lotus. One of her legs is visible while the other foot lies invisible beneath the folds of her lower dress. The benevolent goddess that she is, her two lower arms make the gestures of granting boons to her devotees, while the two upper hold lotuses. The first lotus is a symbol of fertility and life which is rooted in and takes its strength from the primordial waters. The lotus and the goddess Shri-Lakshmi by association represent the fully developed blossoming of organic life. The second lotus refers to purity and spiritual power. Rooted in the mud but blossoming above the water, completely uncontaminated by the mud, the lotus represents spiritual perfection and authority. Goddess Lakshmi thus suggests more than the fertilizing powers of moist soil and the mysterious powers of growth. She suggests a perfection or state of refinement that transcends the material world.

She is shown flanked by four elephants pouring nectar onto her from golden, jeweled containers. As symbols of sovereignty and fertility, the elephants convey Lakshmi's association with these highly desirable qualities which are often sought after or mentioned as rewards, by worshippers of this Great Goddess.
