Among eight manifestations of Devi Lakshmi, also known as Ashtalakshamis - Gaja Lakshmi’s name comes from her depiction of Elephant\Elephants as understood through her name; according to the Vaishnav text of Narayana Pancharatra - Gaja Lakshmi is the bestower of prosperity and luck. Seated in a lalitasana, over a Gaja (Elephant) - she is donned in the auspicious color of red holding two half-blossomed Padma buds. Her, whose generous hands extend Abhaya and Varada holds a pot of ever-flowing wealth she distributes among her devotees in this traditional Tanjore painting.
