Along with Goddess Parvati and Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati forms the divine triad known as “Tridevi” which is responsible for the creation, maintenance and destruction of the universe. Being the eternal consort and internal potency of Lord Brahma, she is associated with Rajas Guna (mode of passion) and thus, assists him in creating the material world. She is considered to be the Goddess of eloquent speech and melodious music.
This beautiful painting is elaborately embellished with 24 Karat gold coating studded with shining stones. Here, Goddess Saraswati is gracefully seated on her mount Swan in an ocean. She is draped in a silk saree and adorned with several jewels on her transcendental body. As she sits in Ardhapadmasana, the perfect pleats of her saree beautifully open as a fan between her legs. Her left foot going down touches a full-blown lotus which is the symbolization of purity. Her four arms represent the four heads of Lord Brahma. With her upper left and lower right hands, she holds a musical instrument known as Veena, which symbolizes the sweet rhythm of the flow of Vedic knowledge. A rosary of crystal beads in her upper right emphasize the importance of chanting the holy names of God. In her lower left hand, she holds the Vedic scriptures. A soft smile on her face describes her extremely merciful nature towards her devotees.
