The vermillion-smeared head of Lord Ganesha. Seated in His usual childlike stance, a strip of scarlet silk spread across His knees. His chubby child’s form is adorned with gold ornaments. On the brow of His wise yet innocent elephant head stands a multi-tiered crown, indicative of His status as the prince of paraloka (the Hindu heavens). Dark eyes swimming with life and omniscience.
It goes without saying that this oil painting of Ganesha conforms to traditional iconography; yet, there is much to distinguish it from run-of-the-mill Ganesha paintings. The fair complexion of the Lord’s form is executed with shades and tints of ochre. Despite the ample, riotous brushstrokes, there is coherence in the composition; a distinctive silhouette that in the heart of the truly devoted, is unmistakable.
