Tanjore paintings of Lord Krishna’s childhood form known as Navaneeta Krishna are loved the most amongst all the other devotional icons. Here too, this form of Krishna has been portrayed in the most enchanting way.
Krishna’s bodily features are very attractive and mesmerizing, and what to speak of His uncommon activities which were always an astonishment for all the residents of Vrindavan.
All the transcendental pastimes of Lord Krishna are very pleasing to hear and read. Everyone in Vrindavan loved Krishna, who is the reservoir of all pleasure, with their heart and soul, and He in return, gave them the highest form of pleasure.
In this painting, baby Krishna is depicted seated on a huge throne accompanied by Mother Yashoda and Rohini standing on its either side. Maa Yashoda has decorated her sweet child with several gold ornaments around His neck and belly that cover His naked body. Makhan chor Krishna loves to steal and eat butter from the houses of gopis and here, He holds a big pot full of butterballs with His left arm and takes one butterball in His right hand which He will gulp down at any moment.
Mother Rohini holds a lotus flower in one hand and a butterball in another. Mother Yashoda also wants to offer Krishna butter in order to please Him. She looks at her child with her eyes filled with motherly affection. Up in the sky, two denizens, completely absorbed in bliss, offer a flower garland to the Lord in order to glorify His pastime.
