The term padmasana also connotes the stance of Her legs. The hip-and-knees trifecta on the same plane, the heels gathered directly below the navel, and the soles of the feet facing skywards. This seated-contemplative (‘dhyani’) asana is the culmination of all yogic asanas. Long, smooth limbs clad in a white saree; the four arms of the chaturbhujadharini (the one possessed of four arms) holding lotuses, dispensing blessings, and gesturing fearlessness. The blue skies behind Her contrast sharply with the reds and pinks on Her person as well as with the shade of blue that defines the waters in the foreground.
A temple entrance-like structure is painted over the upper edge of the painting. Thick borders in orange and scarlet define all four edges of the central panel. Solid-coloured vines and lotus petals, set off by the hints of bright blue in all four corners frame the composition.
