There is a wisdom about the countenance that comes somewhat from maturity, but the face is neither quite aged nor strikingly young. Soft, pleasing features that go with her particular taste in clothing and ornaments. The endpiece of her saree has been unassumingly gathered up on the shoulder, exposing the left forearm and pearl-studded bangles she is wearing. The hand rests on a small wooden box, probably an heirloom of the family to which she belongs. In fact, her handsomely shaped fingers - a chunky gold ring on one of them - exert a defining clasp upon the same. In the right hand she holds a wild rose that she has probably plucked moments prior to posing for the painting.
Note the carefully executed brushstrokes that give her garment just the right proportion of lifelike folds and fall. The background is a seductive gradient of grey, indicative of a soft golden light somewhere in the room she stands in but not within the frame of the composition.
