Radha and Krishna, the divine couple who represent the Hindu ideal of pure love across the world reveal themselves in Indian art in different moods, postures, and settings. In this Radha-Krishna watercolor painting by Kailash Raj, the couple can be seen romantically intertwined, like two young creepers deep in the forests of Vrindavan.

The luxurious use of colors and the romantic subject of the watercolor painting present here the vision of Radha-Krishna as the god and goddess of Love, Kamadeva, and Rati. Under the canopy of a tree covered with fresh green leaves, Sri Krishna and Radha stand on a fully-blossomed lotus flower whose soft petals and insides are naturalistically created on the canvas.

With one foot on the lotus and the other wrapped around the body of their beloved, Krishna and Radha stand in a curious posture, enwrapping each other in a warm embrace. Krishna wears a crown adorned with peacock feathers tucked in it, a dark blue Angarakha (frock-like garment) that suits his blue-hued body perfectly, and a pink scarf that flows on his sides.

Sri Radha wears a bejeweled tiara and a multi-color lehenga decorated with pleasing floral patterns all over. The idea of Radha and Krishna’s oneness is expressed beautifully in the manner in which Krishna’s flute is held by both of them as well as the striking similarities in their facial features.

The romance of Radha and Krishna in this painting emanates from them and affects the surroundings. A pair of parrots sitting on the branch of the tree above the couple appear to be swathed in the love that is in the air. Two peacocks in the background, a pair of the swan on the left, and a pair of the crane on the right- bird pairs signifying eternal love, appear in the Radha Krishna painting as extensions of the union of Krishna and Radha.

The pond in which the lotus serves as a platform for the celestial duo is placed, is covered in blossoming lotus flowers, which appear exceedingly exquisite against the blue-colored water of the pond, mirroring the beauty of Sri Radha, whose youth blooms marvelously, complemented by the blue-skinned Krishna.

The watercolor Radha Krishna painting is framed by a black outline decorated with yellow flowers and traditional motifs, creating an ovular frame for the mesmeric scene. An ageless symbol of divine love, this watercolor painting of Radha Krishna will assuredly fill your home with an enchanting sweetness.
