The greatness of Sai Baba for his devotees lies in the fact that he professed human values of patience, kindness, devotion, and humility as the path to supreme divinity. Sai Baba himself led an austere life, whose importance is presented in this oil on canvas painting. He sits under a banyan tree whose branches hang in the backdrop, wearing a choga (overalls) which is torn in places. A halo around his head, the sign of “Om” on his hand, and the blooming flowers near his leg point to us the merit that is in austerity.
