Aboriginal mother-goddess celebrated in Southern India - Mariamman is the sovereign of clouds, taking care of the rain cycles which are essential for life to thrive. The guardian of her children against all fatalities and overlooking their settled territories - Mariamman is the fierce Kuldevi of several lineages. Seated in Lalitasana, in her Ashtabhuja form she carries the weaponry of protection, draped in the auspicious red; wearing an open garland. Seated on a throne, kapalas are offered at her divine feet in complete devotion as illustrated in this marvelous Tanjore art.
