"Satya"- truth, is an epithet often associated with the mighty Hindu preserver Lord Vishnu. The divine embodiment of the supreme truth, Vishnu is worshipped amongst his devotees as "Satya Narayana", a form around which an entire tradition of legends and rituals has grown. This Tanjore painting brings to you the ritual of Satya Narayana Katha, as performed by his bhaktas.
In the center of the painting, Sri Satyanarayana, with a heavenly blue form stands, against a dark blue backdrop, under a luxurious blue drapery and Chattra. Sage Narada and a young bhakta stand on each side, in a devotional manner.
The foreground shows Yajamana (devotee) with his wife, sitting in front of a ritual expert, performing the Puja of Sri Satyanarayana. A one-of-its-kind Thanjavur painting, this is an artwork that will serve as a sacred image in your place of worship.
