Srinathji roopa of the blue-skinned Lord Krishna, which represents him at the delicate age of seven, is the central deity of Nathadwara, revered amongst the Pushtimargis as the ultimate source of Moksha. In this watercolor on canvas, the icon of Thakurji from the sanctum sanctorum is represented in his classical Sringaar, wearing a layered Jama, scarf, jeweled ornaments, and an imposing royal Pagdi. The profusion of lotuses and use of cotton as the canvas suggests that the Pichwai was made for the months of summer when to give Srinathji respite from the heat, fragrant blossoms, and lightweight material employed by the artist. The brilliant use of green and blue on the outline infuses the painting with an aesthetic richness that amplifies the celestial impression of the Lord of Nathdwara.
