They are the embodiment of the life that flows in us. They are the creator, nurturers, and destroyers of their creation. Thus, Shiva and Shakti are depicted in this Patachitra as Bhava and Bhavani (the origin of all creation and his counterpart). Their acts result in the beginning of time, life, and space. The beauty and grandeur of their divine actions are highlighted by the grand frame of this watercolour.
Standing in the supernatural wilderness, Shiva and Parvati appear immersed in each other, the peak of attraction between Purush and Prakriti that leads to the procreative processes. Shiva has given up his ascetic form and is adorned with a kingly crown over his jata, a dhoti under his Baaghacharma (hide of the tiger), earrings, necklace, and armlets, bracelets, waistband, and Kada on his feet, all ornaments fashioned out of gold. He is four-armed, holding his trident and damru in two of them. His main left hand is embracing his consort and Jagadamba Parvati, whose beauty is beyond words. She is dressed in a red saree with pleasant floral motifs all over. Devi wears a tiara, necklaces, waistband, Kada and anklets, and other ornaments made from precious metal and jewels. She holds a lotus- the universal symbol of purity and beauty, and an auspicious motif in Hinduism used to represent the sprouting of life. That the artist has given serious attention to details is visible in the almost invisible traces of Bhasma (ash from the cremation ground) on the body of Shiva and lines used to depict musculature.
