Twin peacocks, facing away from the other form the four corners of this kalamkari. The rest of the canvas is occupied by a large circle. The core of the circle has Surya riding the chariot driven by the legendry seven white steeds. The four-armed Surya sits in Padmasana, holding a lotus in each of the two hands. He is crowned with a Kiritamukuta and is encircled by a halo. Surya was, and still is, the sun-god and as such was considered the source of light, warmth and life itself.
Around Surya are the signs associated with the sun, equally divided into a year of 365 days. Each person born under one of these sun signs is influenced by their position in relation to the sun. As the position of these stars changes, so does one's fame, fortune and riches. The ram represents Aries, the next being Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius & finally Pisces.
