A traditional, Kashi-style arati lamp. Of substantial proportions, it is handheld and features three tiers of lamps. Interestingly, the tiers of lamps are not circular. They are arranged in rows of descending length, with a solitary dia at the zenith of them all.
This solitary dia is borne by a gajavahini. The dia rests on the head of the elephant. It raises its trunk, as if paying homage to the deity being worshipped by the arati. This makes a total of twenty-eight lamps in this composite handheld arati lamp.
It is made from pure brass and given a deep, dark, honeyed gold colour finish. Lotus petal engravings at the base, its auspicious presence quintessential to almost every traditional Hindu ritual pooja implement.
