The dance of Ardhanrishwara (the Ishwara or Lord who is half Nari or woman), is a unique aspect of the androgynous aspect of Shiva-Shakti, representing the movement of male and female energies- a dynamic motion at the root of the Universe.
This bronze statue presents Ardhanirshwara dancing gracefully, elevated on a double-layered lotus pedestal.
The deity is adorned with a towering Jatamukuta, with Shiva’s size framed by the stylized tresses swaying in the air and Parvati’s luscious hair tied in a neat bun.
Necklaces, Yajnopavita, belly belt armlets, and bracelets ornament the icon, along with a short tiger hide garment for Shiva and a silk dhoti worn by Parvati, with a tassel of the waistcloth beautifully falling on the side. In this freestanding statue, the reverse of the icon is delineated with equal detail. A smile appears on the face of Ardhanarishwara, expressing the bliss of the deity as they dance to form and create Universes.
