With a tranquil glow coming forth from his body and a golden radiance on his face, Bodhisattva Chenrezig's gilded copper statue from Nepal creates a wonderful atmosphere with his presence. In Tibetan Buddhism, Chenrezig (Tibetan) or Avalokiteshvara is the most well-known Bodhisattva, worshipped for his protection and kindness. He is also referred to as "Shadakshari" in his four-armed form, a reference to his six-syllable mantra (Shad, Akshar).
Chenrezig is enthroned on a stunning lotus seat, her clothing adorned with brocade and traditional jewels. With his primary hands united in front, he holds the wish-fulfilling jewel known as the Chintamani, while his secondary hands grasp the rosary and lotus.
An oceanic stillness flows from his gently opening eyes, instilling in the composition a superb animation. Chenrezig is enthroned on a marvelously delineated golden lotus, which represents the Vishwapadmasana, the most regal throne for Buddhist deities and a symbol of the pinnacle of pure wisdom, at whose heart is Avalokiteshvara’s compassion.
