Chenrezig, “also known as Avalokitesvara,” the embodiment of boundless compassion, is the “One who looks with unwavering eye.” In the ethereal tapestry of Tibetan Buddhism, he listens with divine ears to the symphony of prayers that echo through the realms of challenge and strife.
Legend whispers of his solemn vow, a cosmic pact never to rest until and unless every sentient gets free from the cyclic dance of samsara. As the patron saint of Tibet, Chenrezig is the living Buddha, and his presence is a cascade of benevolence. Clasped in front of his jewel-draped heart, his two front hands are in a devotional gesture (Anjali Mudra). In his upper right hand, Avalokitesvara cradles a crystal akshamala, a rosary weaving the strands of eternity, while his left hand gently clasps a white lotus, a vessel of liberation from the murky waters of suffering.
Adorned in regal attire, Chenregiz sits in the “diamond pose” upon a pedestal of lotus petals, a throne of transcendence. This sacred manifestation from Nepal, etched in copper, depicts the transforming journey from suffering to enlightenment, an eternal dance lead by the compassionate gaze of Chenrezig.
