“Tripuravijayi”- she who is victorious over three worlds, or she who is the consort of Tripuravijaya Shiva, is Uma-Parvati, as revered in the Chola temple towns for centuries.
The pinnacle of femininity, Uma-Parvati in this bronze has a rather plump face, as compared to her usual elongated features, suggesting a young age, the goddess at the brink of youth, when she took the vow of marrying Shiva.
Uma stands in her usual Tribhnaga, wearing a long crown, crescent forehead mark, Makara earrings, beaded necklace, sacred thread, tasseled waistband, and a silken dhoti that clings to her youthful form.
As in the cosmic activity, Uma in such bronze icons accompanies Shiva, standing beside him, with her hand raised to hold a flower, that she offers to her beloved.
