The undying image of Sheshanaga Vishnu. Shesha (translates to finitude) is the name of the naga (snake) that raises its spectacular hood above the crown of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu Himself is seated in lalitasana, nestled atop the coils of the body of Shesha. According to myth, Vishnu dreamed all of existence into being whilst fast asleep in the coils of Sheshanaga.
A slender, straight-cut sculpture. The regal stance of the chaturbhujadhari (four-armed) is enough to transfix the gaze of the truly devoted. He is clad in a dhoti wound tightly around His limbs, revealing rather than concealing the beauteous musculature underneath. Its silken pleats lie upon the intricately engraved skin of Sheshanaga’s coiled body.
Afore the quadrilateral double-tiered pedestal is a small lotus flower. The foot of the Lord’s pendant leg rests upon its soft belly. His handsome face is framed by a tall, densely engraved crown and layers upon layers of necklaces. Each of Sheshanaga’s five hoods in this iconography bears an expression of ferocity, set off by the lifelike engravings on the underside.
