A stone sculpture of the Indralokiya apsara. The natural pale grey colour of the medium brings out the apsara’s immense yet reserved beauty. She is the muse of the gandharvas (divine musicians) of Indraloka; as such, she is possessed of unearthly grace and perfection of form.
Next to her, preenes itself a gracious swan. Its shapely head is nestled within a sprig of vine that the apsara holds in her right hand. At the zenith of the sprig of vine is a flower no less gorgeous than the face next to which it is juxtaposed. Its petals blend into the bun into which her hair is gathered.
In her left hand is a section of one of her ornaments. To add symmetry to the composition, there rises a semblance of curvaceous plumage to the left of the apsara’s limbs.
