In the Nritya sabha of Chidambaram temple, a statue of Urdhva Tandava Shiva is depicted with heavenliness, along with goddess Kali, whom Shiva defeated in a battle of dance, by striking the enthralling pose of Urdhva Tandava. This majestic bronze statue of Nataraja recreates the aura of Urdhva Tandava, representing Shiva within an aureole of fire, standing atop Apasmara, in his Shadabhuja or six-armed roopa. One leg extended toward the sky and the other rooted on the ground, Shiva beats his drum, creating an ambiance of dynamism and energy, which flows from the murti into the atmosphere.
