Supremely beautiful and the most auspicious mother of all beings, Green Tara in Buddhism is the manifestation of the compassion of Avalokiteshwara. In this stunning gilded copper statue from Nepal, the mighty Green Tara is depicted in her characteristic form, sitting regally on a lotus throne, adorned like a divine queen. Green Tara is ornamented with a beautiful traditional crown, delicate necklace and earrings, soft dhoti, and scarf which are highlighted by a contrasting brown hue of copper. In her two hands, Green Tara carries two blooming lotuses, and the gesture of Vitarka (right hand), or imparting knowledge, and Varada (left), or giving boons.
Pitch black tresses of Tara frame her countenance, which is enlivened by gently opening eyes painted with an artistic refinement, which is a quintessential feature of Nepalese masterpieces.
