A classical Lord Krishna statue. Sculpted from pure bronze, executed in mesmerising detail. The handsomest, most irresistible cowherd youth of the Vrindavan of Dvaparayuga. In the tribhanga stance stands the muralidhara, the body of the one possessed of (‘dhara’) the flute (‘murali’) jutting out (‘bhanga’) laterally at three (‘tri’) different junctures.
The metallic sheen of this bronze Lord Krishna murti brings out the shapely beauty of His form and the molten glamour of His complexion. The densely embroidered dhoti, multitudinous sashes, and the wealth of adornment accentuating limb and lobe and torso - these are all influences of the Hoysala-era iconography of the 10th-14th centuries.
More of the Hoysala influence could be found in the miniature Kirtimukham motif midway along the longline garland and upon the handsome-featured face of the Lord Krishna idol. Around the plinth, note how the tips of the lotus petals curve away and outwards, making for a realistic detail.
