Bhogashakti- the goddess of pleasure is Uma Parvati’s most enchanting form, as the supreme feminine energy, the beloved of Shiva, who unites with him to bring the universe into existence. In the shrines of Southern India, this form of Parvati is revered as the queen of the inner chambers of Shiva, forever by his side for the good of all living forms.
This Panchaloha statue of Uma as Bhogashakti radiates splendor, animated by the presence of the great mother. Devi Uma sits in a majestic Lalitasana posture on a double-tiered pedestal, putting the weight of her lithesome form on her left hand, while making the Katakahasta mudra with her right. Her luscious locks are tied in an elongated Jatamukuta and are held by a tiara and Siraschakra (circular ornament, visible on the reverse).
A bindi on her forehead beautifies the perfect curve of her brows, which sit as two bows protecting the lotus eyes and gentle countenance of the great goddess. A two-stringed necklace sits close to Uma’s neck, a Yajnopavita cruises from the center of her torso, armlets clasp her hands and a simple waistband adorns her lovely waist. Smiling rivetingly, Uma is the pinnacle of feminine beauty, marvelously given a visible form by the Sthapatis of the Tamil region.
