The Kuthu Vilakku, also known as the Peacock Oil lamp, is a traditional South Indian light that may be seen in houses and temples. It is made of brass and has five wicks, one for each of the five aspects of human life: body, mind, intellect, ego, and soul. The famous Anam (peacock) personifies grace and refinement. The lamp's stand is elaborate, featuring panels of jaali work. The base is sturdy and has the traditional outward-facing peacock feathers motif. This lamp has a spiritual meaning as well. Traditionally, these lights were used in temples to boost the ambiance of the space. They can now be erected in personal worship locations, and worshippers can reap the blessings of the almighty.
