The graceful Tribhanga pose, lotus in her hand, concial crown, delicate Kuchabandha (breast band), necklace, ornaments, a beautiful dhoti with fine folds, and a heavy waist ornament, this aspect of Devi Parvati in South Indian sacred art is labled “Shivakami” or “Shivakamasundari”, representing her role as the beloved, Shakti of Shiva.
The process that transforms rugged slabs of granite into the most beautiful divine feminine form, can be seen on the reverse of this statue, where Parvati seems to be emerging from the unsculpted piece of stone.
