A Mandala in Buddhism represents the divine realm of the Buddha and is used by an initiate for meditation rituals. The aesthetically marvelous Buddha Mandala here is in the Nepalese idiom, made of gilded copper. Placed on the shoulders of a crouching lion, the Mandala has intricate motifs such as floral patterns, fire, Vajra, lotus, dragons, and deer with Dhammachakra in the different levels, and in the center, the Buddha sits surrounded by the Ashtamangala or eight auspicious signs. Studded with coral and turquoise, this is an ostentatious example of Nepalese art.
