The goddess Rajarajeshwari, queen of the sacred Srichakra, is sometimes invoked as "Kameshwari," the goddess of passion, who becomes the source of all creation after the great deluge and provides activity and desire to the earth.
The goddess Rajarajeshwari, dressed in a saree and royal jewelry, is depicted in this traditionally made bronze statue holding a twig of Kalpavriksha (wish-fulfilling tree) and Ikshukhanda (sugarcane, which has the power of Rasa or sweetness).
Traditional Hoysala iconography and bronze combine to bring a divine aura to the image, enhanced by the grand vegetation aureole and lotus throne, symbols of fertility. The statue is sculpted from every side, giving it a quality of being blessed by the goddess’s presence. A lion emblem on the front of the throne is a reminder of the ferocious nature of the beautiful goddess, who is the origin, sustenance, and end of the cosmos.
