A unification of the powers of goddess Parvati and Kali with the local South Indian goddesses gave rise to the cult of Mariamman, who is revered today as the supreme mother, who blesses her children with health and prosperity. In this small brass statue, Mariamman is adorned with a traditional saree and ornaments and holds the attributes of a warring mother goddess as symbols of her divine protection and potency.
