Here we have a small brass set of Sri Vishnu, his chakra (discus) Sudarshana and shankha (conch) Panchajanya. Combined, this is a powerful Vaishnava imagery, compact in size but filled with meanings.
Vishnu's weapons or ayudhas are visualised as anthropomorphic Ayudha Purushas, figures who are believed to carry a portion of his potencies. The chakra, Sudarshana is the embodiment of Vishnu's abilities to cut through all the false attachments and liberate a soul from the cycle of birth and death. It also represents an ancient Indian political concept - that of the Chakrvartin. As Vishnu rules all plains seen and unseen, a chakravartin is the king who rules over the vast stretches of land. Similarly, the conch is blown before an auspicious occasion or a mission, to ensure its success. Brought together in these brass handmade images, Vishnu and his conch and discus are a reminder of the powers of the savior of all humankind.
