There is no equal of Devi Sarasvati in triloka (the three realms of existence). She is the fairest of the Hindu devi pantheon, daughter of Devi Durga and sister of Devi Lakshmi.
Most importantly, She is the wife of Lord Brahma, the presiding deity over srshti (creative projection), to whom She is indispensable because She is the presiding deity over learning and aesthetics.
Her iconography as could be seen in this murti reflects Her sacred function. To begin with, the veena is the most signature element of Her iconography.
It is a classical musical instrument, as long and slender as She is, which She invariably strums on to produce divine music. She is seated in lalitasana on a gigantic lotus-bloom throne, at the foot of which nestles Her vahan, the swan. The swan, the most elegant of feathered creatures, resembles its mistress in beauty and feature - pristine complexion, lithe proportions, and superbly beauteous eyes.
Indeed, there is something ethereal about Devi Sarasvati. This aspect of Hers has been captured to perfection in this sculpture wherein She is depicted floating about in a delicate network of vines. Zoom in on each aspect of the Devi to appreciate the precision with which such a complex visual has been executed.
Finally, the crown on Her head completes the glamour of Her iconography. It is multi-tiered, with a sprig of gorgeously curving vine that descends upon either side of Her face.
