In one of her hymns, the great mother goddess is called “Shiva-Nartaki”- meaning, “she who dances with Shiva” or “she who dances for Shiva”. Mirroring the majesty of Shiva as Nataraja, goddess Uma-Parvati in this wooden statue appears in a divine mood, with dynamism and beauty adorning her presence. Devi Uma Parvati is standing on a beautifully carved lotus pedestal, with the Kirtimukha Prabhavali surrounding her form. The vegetation-style tassels on the halo and Kirtimukha (face of glory), a symbol of divinity amplify the grandeur of the dancing Parvati.
Her form is of a beautiful red color- symbolizing vitality and power and is adorned with ornate jewelry that marks her status as the divine queen mother.
Parvati raises her left leg in the air, in the dynamic Ardhaparanyakaasana, imbuing the statue with a dramatic sense of movement. Her lotus eyes are steady and benevolent, gazing at the onlooker with a motherly firmness. Accompanying her is a yogini, carved in a relatively smaller size to emphasize the greatness of goddess Parvati, who is the source of energy for all beings.
