The King of Dancers, Nataraja is a form of the Hindu God Siva who is a well-known symbol in the West for Hinduism and Eastern mysticism. In this majestic statue made of pink stone, Nataraja is dancing with his right foot supported by Apasmara (demon of ignorance) and the left foot elegantly raised in absolute bliss. The river Ganga sits in his hair and a cobra uncoils from his lower, the crescent moon and a skull are on his crest. This is called Ananda Tandava, the dance of bliss. Lord Shiva dances within a circle of flames, symbolizing the continuous cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The dance represents the rhythmic movement of the universe and the divine energy that sustains it.
