This lovely designed brass light is called an Aidai Deepam, or pedestal lamp. This lamp, made primarily of brass, is embellished with delicately coiled vines on the head or backbone of the lamp. These vine constructions are loosely based on the ornaments used to adorn the Salabhanjika, the exquisite female figures carved on the walls of Hoysala temples. This lamp's oil basin is highly elegant and wide, extending the standard leaf-shaped oil basin construction a step further.
