Each of Chenrezig's four hands, as he is portrayed in Tibetan Buddhism, carries important symbolism. His two front hands are clasped in front of his heart, which is covered in jewels, in a gesture of devotion that symbolizes compassion. The right-hand holds a crystal Akshmala, or prayer beads, which symbolizes reciting mantras and engaging in meditation. The left-hand holds a lotus flower, which stands for enlightenment and purity. This image of Chenrezig demonstrates his many facets, such as compassion, knowledge, and the capacity to grant devotees sincere petitions.
