This unique representation of Hanuman is known as Panchamukhi Hanuman or Panchamukha Anjaneya. It features five heads, each depicting a deity associated with Vishnu - Hanuman, Narasimha, Varaha, Garuda, and Hayagriva. This iconography, originating in the Tantra tradition around the 15th century CE, is not mainstream in Hinduism. In a notable narrative, Hanuman rescues Rama and Lakshmana from Ahiravana's captivity in Patala, the netherworld. Hanuman defeats Ahiravana by extinguishing five lamps simultaneously with his five faces, showcasing his divine prowess and multi-faceted nature.
