Goddess Kali in Hindu tradition is the aspect of the great mother which is unbounded, beyond the wisdom of gods, and yet benevolent to her devotees. This brass statue is devoted to her form as Dakshina-Kali, the blissful and calm form in the aftermath of cosmic battles, with Shiva lying under her feet. Devi Kali is adorned with Mundamala (garland of skulls) and a girdle of severed hands, a royal crown, and her hair forming a stunning backdrop for her form. In such a small space, the sculptor has managed to evoke the ethereal beauty of the dark mother, with her ornaments, her posture, and the jackal that is reaching the head in Maa Kali’s hand, representing the unparalleled affection of the mother for all her creations.
