The quiet, contemplative composure of the Buddha. Within the depths of those half-shut eyes are years of dharana, dhyana, and samadhi, higher-order yogic practices akin to profound contemplation.
The Buddha-head that you see on this page captures the samadhi of the erstwhile Shakyamuni to perfection. Fashioned from brass, its blue coppery finish adds to the ethos of the composition.
The head of the Buddha from the neck upwards is mounted on a wooden stand. The base comprises a uniformly sculpted quadrilateral block, poised on a flattened quadrilateral base.
Sharp, angular edges and a deep black colour which sets off the shades on the Buddha-head. Fashioned from wood, it makes for a sturdy finish and a unique aesthetics.
Zoom in on the Buddha-head to appreciate the detail with which the work has been executed. A round, shapely face. Full, handsomely sculpted features with a distinctive, regal bearing. The superb curvature of the lengthened earlobes, traditionally a symbol of wisdom.
The engravings down the length of the neck like the curves on the body of a conch, which is symbolic of the sweet voice of the Buddha. Finally, the densely packed curls gathered in a sizeable stoopa-like bun on the head, from the zenith of which flares a quantum of agnee (fire).
