Trodding the demons on the battlefield, death of evil incarnate, goddess Kali was pacified by Shiva, who came under her feet, causing her to halt. In this beautiful small brass statue, the moment when the goddess Kali realized she had placed her foot on the chest of Shiva has been presented. In a unique pose, Shiva lies vertically and Maa Kali appears to have just arrived, with one leg placed in front of the other, in a pose that instills dynamism in the icon.
The goddess is splendidly adorned with crowns, ornaments, Mundamala (garland of heads), and a girdle of hands. The open tresses of Mahakali are beautifully delineated on the reverse of the statue, with incised lines creating symmetrical waves on metal.
Shiva’s form too is depicted with ornamental details and his attributes, adorned by which, he reclines with his head on his hand, as if raising it to gaze at the ethereal beauty of Shakti.
