Lord Kumara Karttikeya, also known as Lord Murugan Swamy in south India, is the son of supreme lord Shiva and Devi Parvati as per the Hindu texts. He is a warrior god, the chief commander of the army of Gods. As per the ancient texts, he had led the gods to many victories against the forces of Asuras (demons). That is why he is primarily worshipped by the warrior communities only. There are very few temples dedicated to him in Northern India, but his devotion and worship are still persistent in many southern Indian communities. Also revered as a protector deity, it is said that the Lord protects his devotees from the forces of evil. In his ancient depictions, the lord is portrayed as a youthful warrior holding his iconic spear, and his mount, a peacock by his side.
This statue portrays the lord capturing the same ancient spirit. The admiration for ancient artworks and the maintenance of authenticity is quite remarkable. It's as if the statue pays homage to Lord Karttikeya and his legacy. This small statue made of pure brass is adorned with intrinsic details. Be it the exquisite jewelry of the lord, the body of his peacock, or even his pedestal, the carvings are intimidating. Blessing the devotees with his benevolent quiet smile, the lord looks magnificent in his royal attire. The heavenly peacock just adds to the divine aura of Lord Karttikeya. This beautiful artwork expresses something beyond the reach of the words, something only the heart can understand. Expressing the inexpressible, this statue is the perfect portrayal of the ultimate warrior and the kind-hearted protector, Lord Karttikeya.
