Mariamman in her temples in Southern India is the embodiment of supreme Shakti, she is Parvati, Kali, Durga, and Chandi fused, expressed in her iconography which is an amalgamation of all great Hindu goddesses.
This marvelous nearly 5-foot large granite sculpture presents Mariamman seated on a lion-like Durga, with a flaming aura like Kali and the heavenly beauty of Parvati.
She carries her characteristic features and is poised in Lalitasana, with her dangling foot grounded on the head of a vanquished demon. As Devi Mariamman smiles, her Simha (lion) roars, a symbol of her fierceness.
Inspired by the classic temple sculptures of Tamil Nadu and surrounding areas, the granite statue has a powerful aura, elevated by an exquisite lotus platform that allows the devotee to completely immerse themselves in the Darshana of Mariamman.
