This brass Shodash Upchara lamp is also known as a Nagadipa due to the presence of the Sesh Naga symbol as the center picture on the lamp. The oil basin has been removed, and the arch has five holes to accept the elongated cotton wicks soaked in oil or ghee. Following the technique, the flames are quenched instantly. The Torana is another name for the arch. During the second half of the normal sixteen-step Shodash Upchara, these lights are rotated clockwise or in the Om form. Since the 16th century Nayaka period, the image of a Prabhavali formed by light with the candle burning behind the back has been popularised.
