Worshipped by students, artists, and everyone else seeking success in any intellectual endeavor, goddess Sarasvati is the presiding deity of wisdom, knowledge, arts, and music. Here, we have a brass idol of Devi Sarasvati, where she sits on the back of a beautiful bird, the peacock.
The majestic bird is standing atop a platform shaped like an inverted lotus. Devi Sarasvati has four hands, holding her Veena in two hands, while the other two hands hold a Veda and a jap mala (rosary). On the goddess’ head is placed a royal crown behind which is a floral halo, her neck is adorned with necklaces and a garland of flowers, and she is clad in a sari. A noteworthy feature of this brass Sarasvati image is the peacock. The bird signifies beauty, passion, and a shallow and deep-seated pride in these characteristics. Goddess Sarasvati by making the bird her vahana, governing its nature highlights that one must refrain from arrogance and fickleness, and the only way to do this is to acquire true and pure astuteness.
