Because of the presence of the Sesh Naga emblem as the central picture on the lamp, this brass Shodash Upchara lamp is also known as a Nagadipa. These lamps are known as Anasaka because the oil basin is gone and the arch has five apertures to accommodate the elongated cotton wicks saturated in oil or ghee. The flames are extinguished immediately following the procedure. The arch is also known as the Torana. These lamps are revolved clockwise or in the Om form during the second part of the regular sixteen-step Shodash Upchara. The picture of a Prabhavali created by the light with the wick burning behind the back has been popularised since the 16th century Nayaka period.
