Spiritual mentoring was also a role of Shakyamuni Buddha, the historical origin of Buddhism. Born in the 5th century BCE in Lumbini (present-day Nepal), he later obtained enlightenment underneath the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India. After attaining enlightenment, Shakyamuni Buddha spent the rest of his life teaching the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, ultimately leads to nirvana. Buddhism was founded on the Dharma, which comprised Hind's teachings.
The fact that Shakyamuni Buddha is usually shown in art in meditative stances emphasises the sombre and reflective nature of his path. The life story, teachings, and symbols of the Buddha, such the Bodhi tree and Dharma wheel, have inspired millions of people all over the world.
