Bhagawan Vishnu’s Vehicle Garuda

Ancient texts describe Garuda as an eagle. However he is almost always rendered in a part-human form, having the wings of a bird and a beak-like nose. He is shown here as a handsome youth with a prominent moustache, kneeling modestly on a rectangular pedestal with lotus petals on the lower level, his hands respectfully folded in the anjali mudra.

He wears a short dhoti and snakes as ornaments, including armbands and earrings. Both of his webbed wings open out on either side and a towering crown adorns his head. This typical posture of Garuda  with one knee on the ground shows him ever ready to spring into action, at the slightest command from his master Bhagawan Vishnu.
